The city of Lavras is located in the southeast of Minas Gerais state and presents a population of a little over 100.000 inhabitants. Lavras is strategic distant from major Brazilian cities such as São Paulo (376Km), Rio de Janeiro (424 Km) and Belo Horizonte (236 Km ).
Lavras is the host of UFLA, a public university, and three other private universities. A large amount of Tabebuia trees within the city and its surroundings brings a charming spring with yellow, purple, pink and white blossoms. For these reasons, the city is know as the "Land of Schools and Tabebuias".
